I began painting in 1996. My background is in fashion and costume design, theatre, dance, and interior design. My abstract art incorporates references to the natural world, in the tradition of contemporary art.Francisco, but I am primarily self-taught.
After many years of painting landscapes, I have spent the last few years exploring abstraction. My process has always been to make marks on my support, then see what shapes are suggested, and develop those into a composition. I have continued that practice with these paintings while experimenting with different surface textures -- from smooth wood panel to very coarse-grained linen. Freeing myself from the horizon-line has forced me to paint with greater emotion, and use color more freely.
